LA REALTORS Roll Into Capitol Committed and Connected: Defending the American Dream
Monday, May 7, 2018 @ 11:22 PM

By: Christopher Nikhil Bowen (May 7) - With the cloud of greater statewide controls hanging drearily over the Capitol, REALTORS® brought their sunny message of limiting economic burdens (and strengthening economic incentives) for real estate in California last week. This is an annual trip to Sacramento and elected officials and their staffs greeted REALTORS® with smiles and words of encouragement. “We all agree that California is facing an affordable housing shortage and it’s the issue of the decade, but how can we solve it? Collaboratively!” said Beverly Hills/Greater Los Angeles Association of REALTORS® Government Affairs Director James Ward Litz.

Streaming from one Capitol office to another, LA REALTORS® made their presence known in Sacramento. Before hearing from Governor Jerry Brown on Lobby Day for the last time, the California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R) debuted a new video entitled “REALTORS®: Guardians of Homeownership” starring our own C.A.R. Director Christopher Wookey. LA REALTORS® made a splash with Assemblymembers and Senators as well, take a look on Twitter:

While the percentage of Californian’s who own a home have been declining over the past twenty years, it’s a trend REALTOR® Association advocates are working to reverse. This can only be accomplished if we re-prioritize the American Dream of homeownership again. While it’s called the “American Dream,” California must take real life economic and legislative steps to ensure it becomes a reality for more California families.

REALTORS® from across the state volunteered their time to advocate for homeownership and real property rights, and we can’t thank them enough for their commitment and dedication to an issue that is crucial to all Californians. Budgets are a reflection of societal values, and LA area REALTORS® spoke with elected officials about how Californian’s value affordable housing opportunities in coastal areas. Speaking with Members and their staff, reminding them of this shared goal was a great refresher for REALTORS® and elected officials alike.

The message of the lobby trip was rock solid, increasing housing stock is a must for California to remain affordable, particularly for the working and middle classes. Greater supply is the answer, not greater controls. We hope the members of our state legislature take that message to heart.
