LA Area REALTORS Rejoice in CA 2018 Election Results
Wednesday, Nov 7, 2018 @ 10:10 PM

November 7, 2018 (Los Angeles, CA) - It was a great night for the REALTOR® Party and private property rights in Los Angeles and throughout California!

Proposition 10 (rent control expansion) was roundly defeated 61%-39% by California voters after an incredible educational campaign run by REALTORS®. Without REALTOR® efforts to spread the word about the damage Proposition 10 would do to our state, Rent Control expansion in CA would have likely become a reality. Proposition 5 (property tax transfer) was unfortunately defeated 42% - 58%, which was initiated and funded by the California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R).

In Federal Congressional news all of our supported candidates won their races. Additionally, all of our State Assembly and Senate candidates won their elections. We had a nearly 100% success rate on our statewide supported candidates as well. The REALTOR® Party power propelled many of these candidates to victory.

Countywide we saw the re-election of LA County Assessor Jeffrey Prang (whom we strongly supported) while the Sheriff’s race is too close to call. However we were not successful in defeating Measure W (Storm Water Parcel Tax) was passed with 67% of the vote, it needed 2/3rds of voters to be approved.

Locally in Santa Monica we scored a massive win with the passage of Term Limits (Measure TL). We strongly supported this Measure as we understand the importance of distributing power. Meanwhile our supported candidate Greg Morena for Santa Monica City Council was successful, while our supported candidate Councilwoman Pam O’Connor was not.

Government Affairs Director James Litz

President Steve Drust and Government Affairs Director James Litz would like to personally thank all the REALTORS® who made the extra effort to defeat Proposition 10.President Steve Drust

Overall we had a stunning rate of success, and we are truly encouraged that Californians responded so positively to our message for responsible housing policies that encourage development for years to come.
